(dpa) - German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (L) clinks glasses with Peter May, CEO of the Stuttgarter Hofbraeu brewery, in the Vatican in Rome, 22 September 2003. 'This is quite an unusual meeting', the cardinal from Bavaria said in his speech during the reception in the 'red parlour' of his office. The brewing of beer was not the subject of his inquisitons as there are no heresies brewed, he continued. Ratzinger heads the Catholic Church's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, whose aim is 'to promote and safeguard the doctrine on the faith and morals throughout the Catholic world'. The congregation is the successor of the bureau of the Catholic Inquisition, which in earlier centuries had heretics burnt at the stakes.
